Conclusion

We really like Asus initiative to create a series of notebooks for gamers. Attractive and robust design, good bundle and fast components are excellent recipee for creating a notebook which gamers would like to own. This statement is further amplified in context of croatian market because notebooks suitable for gamers are pretty hard to find. Particular model of Asus G1 series we reviewed in this article is equipped with impressive arsenal of hardware including Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 CPU, two gigabytes of memory, GeForce Go 7700 graphics card with 512 MB of dedicated video memory, 160 GB hard disk, DVD writer with Lightscribe support and 15.4" WSXGA+ screen (1680×1050) with anti-reflective gloss finish. Considering high resolution of the screen, we think that using more powerful graphics card would have been a better choice. Altough GeForce Go 7700 is one of the fastest available solutions (at least on croatian market), it has problem handling native WSXGA+ resolution in modern games. This is a good moment to mention that also Asus offers G1 configurations with smaller WXGA (1280×800) 15.4" screen which is more suitable for GeForce Go 7700 graphics card. There is one more negative remark we have to add regarding keyboard. Left part of the keyboard is prone to bending which causes uncomfort while typing. Of course, this is not a problem when you play games, but can be annoying if you type a lot.

Price of tested Asus G1 model is 16.104 kn without operating system. Despite the performance of installed components, we think that price is fairly high considering what this notebook can offer to potential buyer. If Asus opted for more powerfull graphics cards (for example GeForce Go 7950 GTX), its price would be much more acceptable. Without more powerfull graphics card, higher price in comparison to similary equipped notebooks can be justified by cool and flashy design. Of course, for some users this will be more than compelling reason to shell out money for this notebook.
