Conclusion

Altough Scythe coolers we covered through the course of this article belong to different market segments and are targeted toward different users, they both managed to impress us with cooling performanse and low operating noise. Gigantic Orochi is the most powerfull air cooler we ever tested and we can recommend it to all users who demand maximal cooling performance but are not willing to switch to water cooling or other forms of "extreme" cooling. Orochi’s big advantage is very low operating nose thanks to 140mm/500rpm Kaze Maru fan which is included in the package. Because of this fact, Orochi is extremly well suited for users who want to harness overclocking potential of their CPUs and at the same time enjoy the benefits of silent computing. Biggest problem associated with using Orochi is its size. Cooler is extremlly large and thus a viable solution only for users who already have or are willing to buy a very large (primarily very wide) computer case. Price of Scythe’s largest cooler in croatian computer parts shops is between 540 and 600 kunas (73 and 81 € including local VAT). It is pretty high for an air cooler but at the same time adequate considering Orochi’s performance and target audience (enthusiasts and overclockers). Much cheaper and smaller Shuriken also proved to be a good solution, altough not for enthusiast but for users who want to replace AMD or Intel box cooler with a more powerfull solution with same compact dimensions. In return for about 200 kunas (to be more precise, between 200 and 240 in local shops) you get a compact cooler and well built cooler which outperforms both AMD and Intel referent solution by a wide margin, be it in regards to cooling performance or operating noise.

In the end we have to raise one more question which we haven’t mentioned in the rest of this article – the question of Core i7 support. Scythe currently doesn’t have any LGA1366 compatible cooler in the market. On the other hand, considering the fact that almost all coolers produced by this company use modular mounting mechanicsm, its just a question of time when will Scythe start to bundle LGA1366 mounting mechanicsms with exisiting high-end coolers like Orochi.
