Toshiba OCZ RD400 512GB NVMe SSD
Tvrtka Toshiba OCZ je nedavno predstavila svoj novi NVMe SSD namijenjen gamerima i entuzijastima. RD400 dolazi u M.2 2280 formatu i namijenjen je ugradnji u laptope i desktope, a za sve one koji nemaju M.2 socket, dolazi i s adapterom u obliku PCIe kartice. Dolazi u kapacitetima od 128 pa do 1024 GB, visokim deklariranim performansama i pet godišnjim jamstvom.
Nama je na test došla verzija s PCIe adapterom, koji ima klasični i low format adapter. 80 mm dugačak uređaj je kapaciteta 512 GB (korisnog je prostora 477 GB), kompatibilan je s NVMe 1.1b standardom sučelja koji je kao što znamo protokol koji je kreiran upravo za SSD-e jer donosi niže latencije i ubrzava komunikaciju između kontrolera diska i CPU-a. RD400 je kompatibilan i s PCI Express Gen 3. x4 sučeljem (32 GT/s), podržava L1.2 low power stanje, dolazi u izvedbama od 128, 256, 512 te 1024 GB. Ono po čemu je također poseban je da donosi vlastiti driver, koji omogućuje brži rad od Microsoftovog.
Proizvođač navodi različite vrijednosti brzina za pojedine modele, a ovaj naš 512 GB ima deklariranu sekvencijalnu brzinu čitanja od 2.600 MB/s, te zapisa od 1.600 MB/s. Nasumične performanse govore o 190.000 IOPS-a za čitanje 4KB podataka, te 120.000 IOPS-a za zapis. NAND je MLC tipa i napravljen je u 15 nm proizvodnom procesu. Izdržljivost memorije je 296 TB zapisa, uz pet godišnje jamstvo (Advanced Warranty Program). Proizvođač ne odaje nikakve informacije vezane za kontroler, a nagađanja su kako je korišteno Marvellovo rješenje. Maksimalna potrošnja u aktivnom stanju iznosi 6 W, dok je u stanju mirovanja (Power State 5) oko 6 mW.
Umjesto poznatog SSD Gurua, dolazi SSD Utility koji donosi poznati izgled i funkcije. Nakon instalacije aplikacije instalirali smo i najnoviji upravljački program što je potrebno napraviti prije pokretanja testova. Utility nudi pregled osnovnih funkcija diska, nadzor parametara rada, zdravlje diska (preostali životni vijek) i nadzor temperature koja je već u stanju mirovanja visokih 55°C. Uz to na Overview-u imamo i detalje o uređaju, sistemske detalje te SMART informacije. Tuner donosi integrirani benchmark i tuner u kojem možemo podesiti Over provisioning prostor između 0 i 143 GB (služi za pošteđivanje NAND-a i produženje života). Pod Maintenance tabom imamo alate za nadogradnju firmware-a, zatim za formatiranje SSD-a (Advanced Format i Secure Erase), tu su i upozorenja koja dobivamo tijekom rada diska a moguće je i stvoriti Bootable SSD Utility uz pomoć USB diska. Settings tab je za generalna podešenja aplikacije kao što su odabir želimo li ili ne upozorenja, nadzor rada, ali i upotreba Proxy-a.
Prva stvar na koju nas je aplikacija upozorila je previsoka temperatura rada SSD-a koja se penjala čak i do 76°C (na slici iznad je nešto niža). Da, RD400 se dosta zagrijava i apsolutno je nužno prisilno ga hladiti kada temperature padaju i za 20°C. Zbog ovoga će možda biti manje privlačan vlasnicima prijenosnika, dok će bilo kakva zračna struja preko njega na desktopu riješiti problem grijanja.

Način testiranja
Disk smo testirali na našoj standardnoj platformi, a prilikom testiranja je disk radio s Toshibinim NVMe driverima. Uz sve standardne testove koje provodimo tu je i simulacija četiriju situacija uz pomoć I/O Metera – Database sa 67% čitanja i 33% zapisa, Workstation sa 80% čitanja i 20% zapisa, Web Servera sa 100% čitanja i File Servera sa 80% čitanja i 20% zapisa, nakon čega ispisujemo broj izmjerenih IOPS-a. Napravili smo i Sustained Performance 12 satni test kako bi utvrdili ponašanje performansi tijekom vremena. Testove transfera s diska na disk nismo radili jer jednostavno nemamo ništa što bi bilo jednako brzo kao RD400. Savjeti za svakodnevnu operativu SSD-a pod Windows OS-om uključuju isključivanje stvari kao što su indeksiranje diska, zatim isključivanje prefetcha i Superfetcha te defragmentiranja koje je sasvim nepotrebno.

PCMark u svom Storage testu simulira aktivnost diska snimljenu tijekom prave upotrebe aplikacija iz Adobeovog Creative Suite-a i Microsoftovog Office-a, te na temelju mjerenja performansi donosi rezultat u MB/s. RD400 je ovdje najbrži disk kojeg smo imali prilike testirati i performanse su jednostavno odlične.

ATTO 4K performanse su solidne i u gornjem su dijelu grafa, no 512K su kod čitanja na samom vrhu, a kod zapisa tek malo ispod brzog RevoDrive-a.

Rezultati miješanih testova, tj. simulacija četiri načina rada u serverskom okruženju su najbolji koje smo vidjeli do sada - za koju god namjenu ga koristili RD400 će biti jako brz.

Sustained performanse u trajanju od 12 sati su vrlo dobre. Kreću s visokih 100k IOPS-a da bi se stabilizirale na oko 8500 na kraju mjerenja.
Zaključak
RD400 je kao što smo vidjeli iznimno brz i sposoban disk koji će zadovoljiti sve entuzijaste željne izvrsnih performansi. Svaki test koji smo pred njega stavili je briljirao, a brzine transfera te IOPS performanse su jednostavno najbolje koje smo do sada imali prilike vidjeti. Nažalost nije bez mane, sva ta brzina sa sobom donosi visoku potrošnju električne energije i shodno tome i visoko zagrijavanje. Ovo je definitivno uređaj kojem bi dobro došao aluminijski hladnjak na kontroleru i memorijskim čipovima, a apsolutno je nužno hladiti ga bilo kakvom strujom zraka. Ipak, zbog blistavih performansi zaslužuje visoku ocjenu i preporuku svima koji si ga mogu priuštiti. Ovakav 512 GB model u Njemačkoj košta oko 290 € (u Hrvatskoj se još ne prodaje). Cijenu mu ne možemo uzeti kao minus, jer je riječ o jednom od uvjerljivo najbržih consumer diskova na tržištu.
