Udruženim snagama AMD i ATI predstavili su svoj prvi zajednički projekt – novi chipset namijenjen za AMD procesore, AMD 690. Chipset dolazi u dvije varijante (690G and 690V), obje koriste isti komad silicija no određene mogućnosti su onemogućene u slabijem modelu, dok je Southbridge komponenta ostavljena na izbor proizvođača matične ploče, a AMD SB600 se nameće kao idealan partner.
Obje verzije integriraju prilično snažan grafički podsustav, 690G je jača izvedenica s HDMI & DVI izlazima na Radeon XPress 1250 grafičkom čipu, koji se može usporediti s performansama starijeg Radeona 9700. Slabija 690V verzija chipseta dolazi bez HDMI & DVI izlaza i integrira Radeon XPress x1200 GPU.
IGP X1200 serije ima dva pixel cjevovoda, dvije vertex-shader jedinice, a takt samog GPU-a iznosi 400MHz. S obzirom da spada u skupinu integriranih rješenja, njegove performanse i karakteristike su prilično dobre za ovakva tip sistema pa i uporaba FSAA i AA algoritama u 3D aplikacijama nije isključena.
Fizičkim dimenzijama ovaj novi Northbridge čip spada u skupinu manjih te je za njegovo adekvatno hlađenje pogodno i pasivno rješenje, a podatak o 7W potrošnje svakako potvrđuje takvu tvrdnju. Osim toga, jedinična cijena čipa od USD 15 za proizvođače matičnih ploča jamči vrlo veliku rasprostranjenost i nisku krajnju cijenu matičnih ploča zasnovanih oko ovih čipova, a u najavi je i M690G chipset za prijenosna računala.
